Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is both simple and stunning. The camera’s sharp angles are a pleasure to look at. I also appreciate that they don’t have a bulky bump.
They fit flusher with the handset’s back. Its overall design is simple and elegant.
Another plus is the 6.8-inch display’s gently curving design. This adds aesthetic appeal to the screen without causing accidental screen presses. The only problem I have with the display is the difficulty of typing words and moving the cursor to the right or left side of the screen.
The S22 Ultra weighs 8.07 ounces, compared to Apple’s 8.5 ounces. It has a slightly larger screen than the iPhone 13 Pro Max at 6.7 inches.
GoPro Hero 10

Physically, the GoPro Hero 10 Black looks almost identical to its predecessor. Only Hero 9 Black‘s Hero 10 Black has an external difference is the fancy blue logos on its front and sides.
There have been a few subtle changes to the GoPro, but the most important for watersports enthusiasts is the new lens cover.
The lens cover now features a hydrophobic water-repellent coating. We tested it under a tap and found that the new lens cover was significantly more effective at repelling water.
The lens cover is also more scratch-resistant, although it was harder to test on our loan sample.
However, an unexpected test in which our head-mounted GoPro flew away from a heavy zip line landing and came to rest on some jagged wood chips did not leave any obvious marks on the lens. This lens cover can be removed and replaced if it sustains serious damage.
Although the Hero 10 Black is 5g lighter than its predecessor, we are unable to determine where GoPro made these weight savings, and it doesn’t offer any practical benefits.
The camera’s base has folding “fingers” that can be attached to accessories. These were first seen on the Hero 8 Black and allow you to attach the camera directly to your helmet without the need for additional housing.
Here’s a quick overview of Hero 9 Black’s design features. A 1.4-inch front LCD is available for vloggers. GoPro claims that this screen shows movement a lot smoother than it did before. Despite being so small, we couldn’t really tell the difference from its predecessor.
The 2.27-inch LCD rear touchscreen is far more prominent. GoPro claims that this touchscreen has an “improved touch sensitivity”.
However, the real difference is due to the GP2 processor. We were critical of the Hero 9 Black’s slow, unresponsive rear screen. It was not as responsive as the Hero 10’s touchscreen.
This is the way Hero 9 Black should have performed, so it’s not a victory for its successor. It is much more fun to use than last year’s frustrating experience.
The Hero, 10 Black’s side doors will reveal the same 1,720mAh battery that was used in its predecessor. This was another change introduced on the Hero 9 Black. If you are upgrading from an older GoPro, your older 1,220mAh batteries will not work here.
The battery cover is flanked by a microSD card slot and a USB-C port. This port is used for charging but can also be used to transfer footage to your Hero 10 Black via wired transfers (which is approximately 50% faster than wireless transfers). This is a straightforward process for Android phones.
They only need a USB C to USB C cable. However, iPhone users will require the Apple Lightning to USB camera adapter and a standard USB A to USB C cable.
The Hero 10 Black is an excellent pocket camera, which can be waterproof to 10 meters and feels a lot more professional than its predecessor.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a larger, 2.4um pixel sensor that captures more light and data. It also has a Super Clear Glass lens to capture nighttime videos without using flares.
The 12MP ultrawide lens is combined with a dual 10MP telephoto camera that offers 10x optical zoom, 100x space zoom and a dual 10MP telephoto camera.

Samsung’s camera system is also increasing its focus on computational photography. The adaptive pixel technology combines nine pixels to create one image for better dark images, enhanced AI processing and faster multi-frame processing.
The S22 Ultra’s Night Mode has been improved. However, I am more impressed by how the camera works in low light and without activating Night Mode. This is a shot of Star Wars figurines in low light.
The S21 Ultra makes it possible to barely see the Darth Vader’s helmet, Han Solo’s boots, or hair on the left. In the S22 Ultra’s shot, both are more visible.
The S22 Ultra photo also shows the artificial plant pot and green leaves more clearly than the painting in the background.
This photo of geese I took in a nearby park is proof that the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 10x zoom is one of the best I have tested. Although the 30x zoom is less detailed and more like a watercolor painting than it is, it’s still very cool to be able to get close enough.
This indoor photo of chrysanthemums flowers taken indoors by the Galaxy S22 Ultra impressed many. The phone is rich in purple, yellow and maroon tones.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max Max has a brighter shot and more details in the petals. The Pixel 6 Pro is also better than the S22 Ultra because it has more detail in its shot.
In this shot of trees, the Samsung S22 Ultra came out on top. The S22 Ultra produces a brighter image and more vibrant greens than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The highlights make the image appear clearer, especially when you view the bark. You also get a better contrast.
For improved portraits, the Galaxy S22 Ultra uses AI Stereo Depth Maps. The background is blurred, and my shirt and jeans are crisp in the above photo. My skin looks natural in the afternoon sun. Previous Samsung phones were known to have a tendency for my skin to become sallow.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max wins the award, though, because it produces a brighter, more vivid shot. My shirt pops more with the blue, turquoise and orange colors. The portrait of the S22 Ultra is much better than that of the Pixel 6 Pro, which appears grainy.
The S22 Ultra’s 40MP camera front took a selfie. It produced a well-lit shot with good detail in my hair. The photo taken with the iPhone 13 Pro Max was brighter and captured more accurately the sun and shadows. My jacket also shows more stitching. However, I would not say that one phone is better than the other.
In our selfie comparison, I would give the Pixel 6 Pro a narrow edge over the S22 Ultra. The glow from the sun makes the photos look a little more pleasant. It’s not perfect.
In this image of a bench outside in complete darkness, the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s Night Mode excelled. The S22 Ultra’s shot is brighter than the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s, with everything visible from the grey bench to the green bushes to surrounding mulch and bricks.
The Pixel 6 Pro does a better task of lighting the bushes in the foreground. However, the curtains and light coming through the window are closer than what I could see with my naked eye. However, I prefer the S22 Ultra’s image here.
These Star Wars figures were shot again with Night mode on. The iPhone 13 Pro Max’s shot looks brighter, but it is also fuzzier. The S22 Ultra has more crispness in the leaves and Darth Vader’s portrait.
Although the Pixel 6 Pro produces a bright image, it appears like there is a film covering the entire photo. There’s also less contrast.
In this bar cart image taken at night, the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s Night Mode performed well. The S22 Ultra exposes the decorations better than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The iPhone’s shot shows the glasses and Kettle One bottle on the left a little better.
Although the Pixel 6 Pro’s image appears brighter, some details appear a little blurrier. This one is hard to choose.
Samsung cameras can sometimes oversaturate colors. This is the case with this S22 Ultra picture of produce in a grocery shop.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max Max captures more natural-looking colors and also highlights more texture in the oranges. Although the Pixel 6 Pro has a more natural look, its image ends up looking a little washed-out.
This photo of Times Square taken on a sunny day by the Galaxy S22 Ultra showed some issues for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The sky and buildings are more washed-out.
The exposure seems off. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a deeper blue sky without the clouds. The billboards and The Counter signs are easier to see. While the Pixel 6 Pro has similar benefits from its shot, the overall image is flatter.
Camera highlights include Auto Framing, which can identify up to 10 subjects at once, and an Expert RAW app that can capture 16-bit RAW files for those who wish to have more creative control over their photos.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s default camera settings have Scene Optimizer turned on. This mode is designed to intelligently enhance photos by changing white balance, colors and brightness.
It is best to turn this feature off as it can overcook images. However, Scene Optimizer in the Galaxy S22 Ultra is so great that you can leave it on.
It is interesting to note that the Galaxy S22Ultra’s photography differs between countries because of the different chipsets Samsung uses.
GoPro hero 10

The new GP2 processor, which is at heart the Hero 10, has been a key feature that GoPro has been eager to highlight. The GP2 processor not only increases the frame rates across the board but also gives Hero 10’s software a noticeable speed boost.
The Hero 9’s sluggish UI was a major disappointment, especially since GoPro is now competing with top-of-the-line cameras and phones powered by fast chipsets. The GP2 finally makes the Hero 10 close the speed gap.
Although the UI speed can’t compete with Samsung or Apple flagship phones, the difference in UI speed is so minimal that I have never felt displeased by it.
The Hero 10’s menus make it a pleasure to use. Its simple, three-pronged approach to separating the feature set into three categories (Time Lapse Video, Photo and Photo) makes it easy for beginners. Switching between them takes just two seconds.
The touch response is spot-on, which allowed me to experiment with different settings without worrying about whether it would take too long. You can also wirelessly transfer files quickly, and GoPro has added the ability to wire transfers to your phone if you want to save some battery.

This video was taken at Bryant Park to test the S22 Ultra video quality. The phone captures the fountain detail as I zoom in, even though the zooming action is a little jumpy.
Pan up, and you’ll notice that the S22 Ultra captures crisp blue skies and wispy white clouds. The background glass building is also very detailed. The zoom mic works well as I can hear the fountain’s sound as I zoom in.
The Super Steady mode is at 60 frames per second and maxes out to full HD. I was walking up the trail to the Manasquan River when it captured smooth footage. The video was not as rich and colorful as I had hoped, despite being filmed in the woods.
GoPro Hero 10
The Hero10’s new sensor has more pixels than the Hero9. However, the Hero10’s move from 5K to the Hero9 capture is not the main highlight. It’s the increase in frame rates that’s the most important. It can push 60fps on 5.3K and 120fps on 4K, which is twice Hero9’s speed.
A high frame rate video is ideal for capturing action. Motion is captured more fluidly for more realistic (but less filmic!) visuals.
With 120fps footage, you can also adjust the playback speed. This allows for a slow-motion effect that is four to five times faster. You can also use the Hero10 to capture time-lapse video. Stabilization is excellent, making it possible to create time-lapses that include movement.
It’s a great idea to save presets of your most frequently used settings in order to help you organize things. Each preset can have its own bank of video quality settings. You can create as many as you like.
While I was using the camera, I tried different frame rates and resolutions. A flat profile with a lower color contrast is an option if you want more control over your colors.
You can also take still photos with the Hero10. It can be used in photo mode to net 23MP photos in JPG and Raw DNG formats. In-camera GPS automatically adds metadata to stills. You can also pull individual photos from the video.
Each frame of a 5.3K video will yield a 16MP photo and a 16/9 crop. 8MP images can be pulled from a 4K video.
The Hero10 stands out from other cameras that have larger sensors or swappable lenses because of its combination of stabilization, high frame rates and excellent stability. HyperSmooth is a reliable handheld and mounted camera that lives up to its promise.
All in all, When it comes to video quality, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is in a class of its own. The phone’s 4K video recording capabilities are simply unmatched, and its ability to capture super slow-motion footage is second to none.
On the other hand, the GoPro Hero 10 is no slouch either. The action camera is capable of recording 4K video as well, and its image stabilization technology is simply incredible.
So, which one should you buy? If you’re looking for the Best quality video and stabilization, then it’s hard to look past the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. However, if you’re in a big hurry and need that extra boost in speed, then the GoPro Hero 10 is the best device you can buy.
Charging and Battery

Samsung claims that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s large 5,000 mAH battery will provide more than a day of normal usage. . This involves web surfing at 150 nits screen brightness and 5G.
T-Mobile’s network has the 60Hz mode enabled, which gives the S22 Ultra the best battery life results. This is a good result and much better than the 7:55 from Google Pixel 6 Pro.
However, this time period is still shorter than the 11 hours and 25-minute runtime we saw with the S21 Ultra. The iPhone 13 Pro Max ran an even longer 12 minutes.
The S22 Ultra ran for 8:50 minutes with adaptive mode on (which scales up 120Hz), which was lower than expected. We will report back with more results.
