DJI Phantom 4 Pro vs Advanced – Features

The Phantom 4 Pro was the best available Phantom drone, the Advanced model was launched to cater to a lower budget, removing a few obstacle avoidance sensors. The anti-collision system (DJI Vision Placing System) can be found on both drones. It uses various sensors to detect obstacles in front and below the drone. This allows the drone’s speed to be reduced or to avoid obstacles. The VPS is capable of detecting objects up to 10 meters away.

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro also has additional sensors for obstacle detection and an infrared sensor on the left and right. This allows obstacles to be detected from almost every direction. The side infrared sensors can only be activated in Beginners mode, TabFly, and ActiveTrack modes, and they are rarely used. The anti-collision system should not be relied upon too heavily.

The Phantom4 Advanced drone has a better camera than the standard version. The specifications of the standard version are the same as those of the DJI Mavic Pro. If you don’t mind that, the Mavic Pro is a better choice. It’s lighter and easier to transport. Although the Phantom4 Standard is no more sold at the DJI-Store it can still be bought through other dealers.

The Advanced and Pro drones are better options if you have high demands. In the next paragraph, I will describe the details of the camera.

The difference between the Advanced & Pro is not only due to the addition of sensors for the anti-collision systems, but also because there are insignificant differences. The Advanced drone remote control communicates only in the 2.4 GHz frequency band. The DJI Phantom4 Pro can also transmit at 5.8 GHz. This makes it more resistant to interference from other wireless networks, such as WiFi networks. It is less likely to experience disconnections due to this.

Phantom 4 Pro Drone

The Phantom 4 Pro’s camera capabilities are an important feature that is often overlooked. The sensor is great, but video capture speeds are better.

4K video can be viewed at standard resolution (3840×2160) or Cinematic 4K (4096×2160). Both are available at 30 frames/second. This is the kicker.

The 20 MP camera on the Phantom4 Pro is an outstanding little camera. It has a better image quality than the Mavic Pro and other sub-$1000 drones. The Phantom 4 Pro’s 1-inch sensor is the most important drone below $2000.

The sides of the Phantom4 Professional are equipped with infrared sensors that can detect objects up to 7 meters away. The Phantom4 Professional is protected by a “bubble,” provided you fly sensibly and are not flying in Sport Mode.

My video recording was at 4K at 30 frames per second, which is the default setting. Other settings include 1080p at 120 frames per second; 2720×1530 @ 60 frames per second; [email protected] fps, Cinematic [email protected] fps.

To capture photos, there are three ratios. The 3:2 ratio can reach as high as 5472×3648. The 4:3 ratio can be as high as 4864 x3648 and the 16:9 ratio at 5472×3688, respectively. Strangely, the default mode to take photos right out of the box is 3840×2160 pixels.

Phantom 4 Advanced Drone

The P4A model has the same camera capabilities as the Pro model. It has a 20Mp sensor capable of recording 4K video at 60 frames per second.

The mechanical shutter eliminates the distortion that electronic shutters can cause when you shoot at high speeds.

It has a diagonal of 1 inch, roughly four times larger than that of the Phantom 4’s 1/2.3in the sensor. The sensor has larger pixels that capture more light and have a maximum ISO setting of 12800. This allows for greater contrast and better color reproduction.

The P4A, just like the Phantom 4Pro, supports H.265 codecs for smaller file sizes. The P4A can record in H.264 and 265 at 100Mb/s. However, it cannot record in H.264 at 60fps.

You will need H.264 if you want to shoot 4K slo-mo.

The Phantom 4 Pro offers five directions for obstacle detection and four for obstacle avoidance. This is a great benefit for new pilots, and especially when flying in tight areas.
The Phantom 4 Advanced does not have the same backward and sideward vision sensors as the Pro. These safety features can be very beneficial but they are not available in Tripod Mode or Beginner Mode. These safety mechanisms won’t be available to the majority of pilots on their regular flights.

It can even be used in direct sunlight. The new controller features a GPS, compass, and micro SD card slot as well as an HDMI port. The standard remote controller costs $1,199 USD. The Phantom 4 Advanced + includes the Phantom 4 Advanced aircraft as well as the remote controller with an ultra-bright display monitor. In terms of obstacle avoidance sensors, the Phantom 4 Advanced is just a hair behind the Phantom 4 Pro. The Phantom 4 Pro’s obstacle sensing system has five directions. There are three sets of visual systems that can be used to avoid obstacles behind, in front, and below the aircraft. Additionally, there is an infrared sensing device on each side. The obstacle sensor remains in the front and below of Phantom 4 Advanced. It does not have back sensors or infrared sensors. The flight systems work as they always have.

Live View the Working Frequency

The P4P allows you to choose between 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequencies in order to achieve better signal stability in areas of high radio interference. The frequency band of 5.8 GHz is not supported by the P4A.

Vision system

The Pro is not matched in this area, but the Phantom 4 specification is here.

  • The P4A only has forward- and down-facing cameras, where the Pro has cameras facing rearward.
  • The Phantom 4A is now capable of detecting obstacles up to 30m from the P4A. This doubles the range.
