DJI’s latest entry-level drone is the DJI Mavic Mini (399). It isn’t the first. The Phantom series featured the Standard model for as low as $500. DJI also tried the Spark with limited flight time, but it was too expensive. The DJI Mavic Mini has a longer flight time and battery life, so the drone doesn’t have to be registered with FAA. However, connectivity issues were encountered during test flights and we are disappointed with the overall camera feature set.

When comparing the DJI Mavic Mini, which is smaller and more affordable, to the DJI Mavic Air 2 (The DJI Mavic Air 2 is by far the most advanced drone), the biggest differences are its video and photo resolutions, frame rates, and lack of obstacle avoidance sensor.

Camera

The camera is the main feature of any drone and the reason they are so popular. Both of these drones have good cameras, but the DJI Mavic Mini has a superior camera than you would expect from DJI.

DJI Mavic Mini has an HD camera capable of recording video footage at a rate of 40Mbps, 2.7k at 30fps, or 1080p @ 30fps. It has an advanced 3-axis stabilization system for image and video, and a tripod mode to allow you to capture slow-motion cinematic videos. The 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor can take 12MP images, but it cannot record in JPEG format, which is disappointing for professional photographers.

Holy Stone HS720 includes a decent camera. It has a wide FOV and can remote adjust 90deg to provide more viewing angles. It can record 4K images with its 1/3-inch CMOS sensor. The quality is quite good for its price. Videos can be recorded at 2k resolution. However, you will need a micro SD card, preferably a fast one, in order to capture these images. Although the videos look good, there are some distortions such as jitteriness or jello effects due to the lack of a stabilization feature.

The DJI Mavic Mini is without a doubt the best camera. It costs less than $400, but the Mini is a great choice if you’re looking for a low-cost drone to take photos.

Design & Build

These drones are both well-designed. They have a foldable design which makes them easy to transport and is a great choice for travel. You will also get a carry case for the Holy Stone HS720, which has a premium feel and can be purchased separately.

DJI Mavic Mini

The DJI Mavic Mini is small and compact. It can fit in your palm. The drone weighs less than 250g. This means that you don’t need to register it if your home is in the USA, Canada, or the UK.

Mavic Mini is small and light, but it packs many powerful features. It has dual GPS systems and advanced brushless motors that allow it to hover more accurately. You can also track it on the app using the GPS system.

Holy Stone HS720

The Holy Stone HS720 is a beautiful drone. It feels premium despite it being a cheap drone. This drone comes with powerful brushless motors. This is an upgrade to other Holy Stone drones which have inferior brushed motors. The drone is heavier and larger than the Mavic and weighs in at 460g. You will need to register it if you reside in one of the mentioned countries.

It comes with a GPS system that will track your drone and allow you to fly it hands-free using its intelligent flight modes. This is not available on the Mavic. The drone has an optical flow sensor built into its belly to improve hovering ability in areas without a strong GPS signal. It also has a 7.4v 2800mAh lithium-polymer battery that gives it a flight duration of approximately 22 minutes.

The controller for Holy Stone HS720 is simple and minimalist in design. It has a range of approximately 900m and can be powered by 2 AA batteries. The LCD screen on this controller displays telemetry data and is a nice feature.

There Are Differences Between The DJI Drones Charging Systems And Holy Stone.

A good indicator of how long the drone will last is the charging system. Although charging time is not something that many people take seriously, it does play a vital role. The charging time is a measure of how quickly a drone can be fully charged for its next use.

You will see a different winner depending on the charging time when discussing Holy Stone and Mavic drones. The DJI Phantom4 PRO Professional Drone is an excellent choice for those who want faster charging and more frequent use. You will also enjoy the fast charging and extended usage time.

Based on how much you use the Holy Stone model, it takes between 45-60 minutes to fully charge. The package includes a 120V charging port to make it easy to charge. The Holy Stone models don’t charge super fast.

The DJI models are slower than other models and can take as long as 30 minutes to charge. You can also enjoy longer charging times and better usage. The DJI models also have a 120V charging port that charges well.

The DJI Fly App, which was created specifically for the DJI Mavic Mini, is another cool feature of the DJI Mavic Mini. Although it doesn’t have all the features of the DJI GO App it still has a simple interface that is easy to use. The app even allows you to edit your videos and share them on your social media accounts.

Intelligent flight modes are a great feature of the Holy Stone HS720. The HS720’s only advantage is its flight modes, which include orbit, waypoint, and follow me.

The drone also has an automatic return-to-home feature that can be activated using the app or remote controller. This feature activates automatically if the drone loses connection or runs out of battery. Automatic return to home is also available on the DJI Mavic Mini.

It is without a doubt the DJI Mavic mini. Although I understand the desire to compare the two drones, I can see why. The Mavic Mini is DJI’s lowest-priced drone and comes with many of DJI’s innovative technology. The HS720 is one of Holy Stones’ most advanced drones, and it costs less than $300, so a lot cheaper than the DJI Mavic Mini and comes with some advanced features.

The DJI Mavi Mini is a great choice if you have the funds. However, the Holy Stone HS720 drone is the best option, especially considering its price.

Holy Stone is probably the most budget-friendly drone manufacturer. The HS720 is their most popular drone. As you can see, it has a feature the DJI Mavic Mini doesn’t.

Conclusion

The DJI Mavic Mini is my favorite drone. If you have the money, this is the drone that I recommend. The Holy Stone HS720 is also a good drone, especially considering its price.
