DJI M30 Series Review

DJI M30 Series Design

The Matrice 30 Series is lightweight and portable.

With the DJI Matrice 30, the first thing that really “jumps off the page” is its portability.

You’re familiar with the feeling of looking at a Mavic series drone and wondering, “Why can’t I be like that?”

DJI understood this and has finally developed a solution that can be used in almost any situation.

The M30 weighs 3770 +-10 g, including two batteries. It is just a little more than eight (8) lbs. Compare that to the Matrice 300 RTK’s take-off weight of nearly 20 lbs.

It’s also half the weight which is fantastic. It’s also foldable, which is another impressive feature.

The Matrice 30 is a condenser that can be folded from unfolded dimensions (LxWxH), of 470x585x215mm (LxWxH), to 365x215x195mm (that’s about 18.5x23x8.5 inches to 14.5×8.5×7.5 inches, respectively).

Pinched against the Mavic 3 (approx. 13.7 x 11x 4.2 inches folded; 8.7x. It folds down to 3.8 x 3.6 inches.

This drone is small enough to be easily carried in a bag, making it easy to transport to remote areas.

The Matrice 30 is the right choice if you feel restricted by the size or weight of your current UAS.

DJI M30 and M30T Optics Package

DJI M30 and M30T Optics Package

Commercial drone pilots need payloads that can be used for a variety of purposes. These payloads should also produce sharp, clear and highly accurate footage.

The Matrice 30 series is certainly up to the job, thanks to its impressive optics package.

You can get close to your subject from any distance by using a 48MP CMOS zoom camera sensor. It has an optical zoom of 16x and a maximum hybrid zoom of 200x.

You can capture every detail of your flight with 8K video resolution. The main benefit of 8K video resolution is the ability to zoom in or crop to 4K footage in post-production. This allows you to get more detail than your standard 4K sensor.

The M30 also comes with a 24-mm wide-angle camera, which has a display field view (DFOV) of 84deg. The 12MP 1/2″ CMOS sensor camera records at 4K/30fps.

A laser rangefinder is included in the standard payload, which measures distances between 3m and 1200m (approx. 9 ft. to 3,900 ft with an accuracy of +/(0.2m+Dx0.15%).

The Matrice 30T model is available if you require thermal imaging capabilities. It features a radiometric thermal camera that measures temperature accurately at +-2 with a resolution of 640x512px.

Matrice 30 is the best option if you require high-quality images and footage or thermography that is precise.

Rugged and Adaptable

DJI M30 Rugged and adaptable

We’ve all been there.

You are limited in what your UAS can do when adverse weather conditions hit. This puts you in a difficult spot, especially if your job is in public safety. Timing is everything in this case. The weather must be as non-factory as possible.

The M30 is a great choice for you if this sounds like you. It’s a suggestion platform that is unhindered by bad weather.

The M30T and M30T can withstand winds up to 33 MPH (15m/s), and can fly in heavy rain. They can also withstand temperatures as low as -4° Fahrenheit and as high at 122° Fahrenheit (-20degC50deg C).

Seriously. It was built for bad weather.

The DJI M30 series has an IP55 rating. This means it is protected against solid objects and dust that could interfere with normal operation. It can also withstand water jets (6.3mm) projected from any angle by a nozzle.

It is not submersible, so it should not be taken for a swim.

If you are looking for a UAS that can withstand harsh weather conditions, the M30 is a great choice.

Safety and Redundancy

Safety and Redundancy

Are you able to travel to dangerous or difficult places as part of your job?

It is most likely that you are reading this.

A drone must keep you and your team safe. This is why you should have one.

The M30 series has many safety features that will ensure your drone operations run smoothly.

Dual-vision and ToF sensors are included in both models. This ensures that the drone is safe in all conditions. These sensors provide detailed and multi-directional information to avoid obstacles, so you can focus on your mission.

The M30 series features a four-antenna redundancy design, each of which provides transmission services to the aircraft.

OcuSync 3 Enterprise, 4G network transmission can be used simultaneously by the UAS. This adds an additional layer of transmission redundancy that will ensure unmatched flight safety.

And it has a built-in automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) called DJI AirSense, which alerts the pilot if crewed aircraft are nearby.

The M30 can operate even if one of its dual batteries fails and can perform an emergency landing using only three propellers.

The Matrice 30 has many safety features. This is just a small part of its extensive safety features. This drone is safe for all.

Remote Controller

Remote Controller

The M30 is very impressive. It needs a controller.

The DJI RC Plus has a 7-inch widescreen and dual control modes – one for flying and one for capturing.

This remote has an IP54 rating which makes it highly dustproof and water-resistant.

This remote will not let you or your drone down, no matter what temperature you are flying in.

It is specifically designed for enterprise use and features enhanced transmission capabilities.

Four antennas are built into the OcuSync Enterprise. They enable triple-channel 1080p video transmission, seamless swapping between input feeds and support OcuSync 3 Enterprise.

The M30 is the right choice for those who work in challenging environments and require a reliable connection.

DJI Pilot 2 App

This leads us to the interface.

DJI has released the DJI Pilot 2, a new interface for enterprise flight management to improve piloting efficiency.

Pilots can access payload and drone controls via the app with a single tap.

The DJI RC Plus also features a number of customizable buttons that greatly improve the user interface. This makes it easy to adjust the camera and drop PinPoints.

You can fly with confidence using the pre-flight checklists included in the app. The app includes an optimized navigation display and alert notifications to improve safety and situational awareness.

DJI FlightHub 2

Do you need to quickly review the job postings? High-resolution, low-latency live-streaming? Your missions can be simplified with streamlined collaboration.

DJI FlightHub makes it easier to complete your missions without losing any information.

This means that you can quickly check the environment, stream live with multiple users simultaneously, annotate live to all team members and communicate across different types of devices.

The DJI FlightHub 2 and the M30 are key to collaboration between you and your UAS crew.

DJI Dock

Are there any specific locations you would like to fly from? Maybe something permanent?

DJI created a rugged docking station to support their flagship drone enterprise, which can be used 24/7.

The DJI Dock is not only used to house the drone but also serves as a landing/launching platform and recharges the Matrice 30. It can also execute DJI FlightHub 2 missions.

Built-in cooling allows batteries to be charged in as little as 25 minutes.

It’s almost like adding another member to your operations staff.

BS30 Intelligent Battery Station

This smart, portable solution has multiple charging modes to suit your mission requirements. Four pairs of TB30 Intelligent Fly Batteries and one pair RC Plus batteries can be charged at once. One pair takes between 20-90%.

TB30 Intelligent Flight Battery

Each battery has the ability to self-heat in cold environments and hot-swap for quick turnarounds. There are also 400 charge cycles9 for improved operational efficiency.

Apps and hardware controllers available

DJI offers multiple ways to interact and control the M30 Series drones. You can also use the DJI app with your tablet or smartphone.

The advanced hardware controller is even more impressive. The DJI Pilot 2 has a new user interface. It is ergonomically designed and displays useful information. You can view the pre-flight checklist or receive important notifications.

The controller comes with a long-lasting lithium battery, a 7-inch display and IP54 dust and waterproof resistance. The controller can be used in the same temperature ranges as drones.

DJI’s M30 is DJI’s most weatherproof plane to date, boasting an impressive IP55 rating.

Two-digit numbers are used to indicate the level of protection against liquids and solids.

An IP55 rating indicates that the M30 is protected from dust (a limited ingress of dust allowed, but not harmful) as well as low-pressure water jets from any angle.

Although it is not waterproof, this does allow the drone to operate in wet weather environments.

The DJI M30’s RC Plus, DJI’s first weatherproof remote control, has an IP54 rating.
