1. Hobbymate D6 Dual Port

Hobbymate D6 Dual Port

The Hobbymate D6 duo is another dual-port charger from a much lesser-known brand, Comes in 2 types- AC/DC version and a DC-only version which will need an external power supply, cost-wise it makes sense to buy the AC/DC version.

Below is a review of the original D6 Duo. It’s located in the “AC/DC” section. It has been my favorite charger since its inception. I currently have three of them.

The only thing that I did not like about the D6 Duo was its AC power supply. It’s fine to plug it in the wall but I already have a huge 1200 watt DC power supply. I was a bit disappointed with the AC input from the D6 Duo.

Hobbymate was listening. The D6 Duo’s AC input capability is removed and this version cuts $50 off the cost. This is a clear winner for me. The AC/DC Duo is the charger that plugs into the wall. This is the DC-only version if you plan to use an external DC power supply.

The D6 Duo has two channels so you can charge a variety of different packs at the same time, without the risk and complication of parallel charging. The output power is still high enough that it can charge a parallel board full of typical FPV batteries in about an hour or less.

2. HOTA D6 Pro 650W Dual-Output AC/DC

One of the best Lipo chargers

The HOTA D6 PRO Dual AC/DC charger can be used as a primary charger and is very balanced for use on the bench. This battery charger is up to 20A charging rate (ideal for very big batteries (10Ah+)

Dual output channels allow you to charge two types of batteries simultaneously. You can charge up to 12 batteries simultaneously if you have parallel boards (6 outputs).

The AC power supply is built-in so that you don’t need to buy an external power supply immediately. It only provides 100W per channel. If you wish to make it work at its full potential, you can connect stronger external power supplies (650W and higher) via the DC input. It is almost like a higher-powered version of the iSDT608AC. The 800W and 1000W Server PSUs are available for as low as $30 on eBay.

3. SkyRC D100

However, you will need to plug it into the wall to get the best price. It will have enough Amps to power all five batteries.

It would be easy to assume that something this valuable is expensive is true, but it isn’t. It is made from weak plastic, which makes it both economical and potentially dangerous to walk on.

The Holy Rock 5 in1 battery charger is expensive. Get it now while it’s still only $10

This is why it should be placed in the number 2 and not the number 1. This iMax battery charger can do more than just cost.

10. Drone Battery Charger – ISDT SC-608

Drone Battery Charger – ISDT SC-608

It is also worth mentioning the IDST608 charger, which stands out as an excellent battery charger. The product’s layout is outstanding, with an exceptional 2.4-inch IPS display screen. This makes it stand out from its competitors.

It looks great in theory. It can charge some kinds of batteries like LiPo, LiHVV, and LiFe batteries from 1-6 Cells. This charger does everything you need. This is a better option than the Skyrc S60.

This charger is not a power supply, which is why I don’t recommend it to most people. This isn’t usually a problem, but the IDST608 is so powerful that you need a 150W power supply. It is costly.

This charger can charge up to 6 batteries at once using either an XT60 battery or a barrel connector power supply. It also can be powered with a different bigger battery (for charging batteries on the move ).

15. ISDT SC-620

The SC-620 has the same high-resolution display as its brother SC-608, but it also comes with a 500W charger that can charge up to 20A. This is a great display, but it’s not a good idea to charge your batteries fast. This reduces the cycle life of your battery (the number of times you can charge/discharge a Lipo while still maintaining its full output capacity).

Most batteries can only charge at 5C. It is best practice to charge your lipo at 1C, so having a 500W charger is not often needed unless you are using higher batteries like a 10,000mAh Lipo.

It is easy to use the interface thanks to its high-resolution color display. And this charger can charge just about any battery from 1S to 6S so from a functionality point of view it is great.

I have a problem with the charger because it requires a 500W power supply. However, ISDT does not sell this power. To make matters worse, the charger uses an XT60 connector for power input. If you purchase a third-party charger/ power supply, you will have to solder a brand new connector. I believe there are better options.

Lipo Battery Charging Basics And Terminology

Before you dive into the guide, there are some terms that you should be familiar with.

mAh (spelled milli Amp hours) – This number denotes the battery capacity of the battery. This number is very similar to the battery capacity on our phones. A larger number indicates a greater capacity. Higher capacities are at the cost of heavier weight.

A quad with a larger battery capacity will weigh more. This can make it feel slower and less agile.

C-rating – The C ratings of a cell determine the safe amount of current it can deliver. The battery’s C rating determines how high the discharge current is. Manufacturers use the C rating as a marketing tool and make misleading claims about it.

Battery connector – This connector connects to the quad flight controller to provide power and to allow it to be connected to the battery. The voltage and the battery’s current carrying capacity will determine the type of connector that is used.

A smaller battery will typically use a JST connector or a JST PH2.0 connector, while larger batteries will use XT30 or XT60 connectors.

Parallel charging leads – A group of wires that allow a battery to charge is called parallel charging wires. To create a 3S battery, three 1S batteries can be connected in series. The individual 1S batteries can be charged independently by the balance charging wire.

Current Battery Charging – This is probably one of the most important calculations and factors to make before charging a battery.

A 1C charging rate is ideal. While 2C charging rates can be acceptable, anything higher could reduce the battery’s lifespan over the long term. One example is a 1500mAh 100C battery that can be charged safely at either 1C (1.5A), or 2C (3A). Advanced chargers can adjust the charging currents based on the battery.

Choosing A Battery

Size

Before a battery can be eligible to use your drone, there are several criteria. The first is the size. When we discuss the size of a battery, it is more than just its physical size. It also includes its capacity.

Let’s now focus on size and weight. It is true that when we are striving for longer flight time for our drone, we usually go for the batteries with the highest capacity. However, you must also ensure that the battery is compatible with the drone and does not cause any problems during take-off. The weight of the battery determines the drone’s maximum take-off weight.

You must also ensure that the battery you choose fits into the drone easily. To ensure that the dimensions are correct, make sure to measure the drone’s battery compartment. To ensure that you have the correct battery for your drone, it is essential to carefully check the maximum weights of all drones to determine which one you should choose.

The Cell count

One of the most important things to consider is its battery count or battery voltage when choosing a battery. This is important because the voltage of your battery is directly proportional to the motors’ power. This is why you’ll find that batteries with a higher voltage or greater power output assist engines in providing more energy. These batteries are heavier than expected, however.

There is no way to choose suitable batteries for you in terms of their voltage output. You can compare the efficiency of your drone’s motor thrust tables to determine the correct voltage.

We can say with certainty that a battery with higher cell counts will provide greater voltage. However, the downside is the increased cost and weight.

The most important thing to consider when selecting the battery’s voltage for your drone is how many motors it has. It would help if you were sure that the drone’s electronics and the motor could handle the chosen voltage.

It is essential to know that drone motors can be very strict about voltage. Any changes could prove detrimental.

Parallel Charging Boards

Parallel charging boards have probably been mentioned at least a dozen times. What are parallel charging boards? What are parallel charging boards?

Since mini quad pilots use a lot of small batteries, parallel charging is a big help. These components allow you to charge multiple batteries at once from one charging port. Some chargers only have one charging port. Charging 10 batteries takes approximately an hour. Parallel charging boards are therefore available.

The parallel charging board splits the current from the charger and sends it to each port on the board. If a parallel charging board has 5 ports and 5 battery connections, the current from the charger will be divided among all 5 ports.

There is a catch. The charger considers all 5 batteries to be one larger battery and can only charge them together if they are of the same voltage and capacity. Batteries with different capacities can be connected together, but the smaller battery might get overcharged or get damaged.

Tips for how to use your battery charger properly

You can maximize the life and use of your battery chargers as well as the battery’s lifetime by knowing how to properly use them.

If your battery is not being shut off completely, don’t connect an unregulated “automatic charger” to it overnight.

Keep your battery safe in a cool, dry place.

Your battery life is reduced by one year for every 5degC that exceeds 35degC.

Calculate the battery’s total charge time correctly. You should take the battery’s amp-hour and divide it by-charger rating time (amps), then add around 10% for top-off charging.

Batteries are delicate components, are flammable and if mishandled can catch fire. Make sure you own A LiPo bag that will not burn or catch fire if something fails with your battery (such as overheating etc.).
