1. AKASO V50X Native4K

AKASO is quickly becoming a major player in the budget action camera market. Their flagship camera, the V50, is also the only one that records at 4K30fps.

The AKASO V50X was released in July 2019. It is more similar to the V50 Pro in terms of specs than the V50. It features a 2-inch IPS touchscreen and adjustable viewing angle, WiFi, and gyroscope.

Sony’s 12MP sensor captures stunning daylight footage, as well as acceptable nighttime video recordings. Because the sensors are so small, no action camera can produce amazing nighttime Footage. You won’t miss anything with the ability to capture up to 170deg wide angle.

The touchscreen is a welcome addition to the V50. It brings it closer to GoPros that have had them since the HERO5.

The native 4K camera is not the only one that costs less than $100. Two reasons make me a fan of the 4K camera:

AKASO, a well-established company, has the advantage of regularly updating its firmware and offering support for all its products.

AKASO V50X generously provides an accessory kit that includes a remote control, 12 mounts, and a waterproof case. The box contains everything you need.

2. Apeman TRAWO

The Apeman Trawo native 4K camera is one of the most affordable. It records high-quality video with electronic image stabilization.

It beat the AKASO 50 with its larger 1350mAh batteries, which provided it with longer battery life. The V50X has 1350mAh batteries, which negates that advantage. Both record continuously for 180 minutes at 1080p.

Comparable to the AKASOV50X, its f1.8 lens and Panasonic image sensor allows it to capture higher resolution still images of 20MP. However, I don’t really care if my action camera can take 12MP or 20MP photos. It is also slightly less expensive.

The downside is that the 2-inch IPS retina display of the TRAWO is not touchscreen-friendly, making it difficult to control the camera. While 90% of the time, you are only looking for the record button to activate the camera, the remaining 10% require you to navigate awkward menus using a touchscreen.

The Apeman TRAWO 4K Action Camera is a great choice, but we still prefer the AKASO V50X.

3. YI 4K Action and Sports Cam

  • A user-friendly menu that offers many useful options
  • Wonderful image quality
  • Amazing image stabilization

  • The kit does not include a waterproof housing
  • One-button control makes underwater photography difficult
  • Additional accessories not included

Yi is GoPro’s largest competitor. Yi 4K+’s image quality often gets compared to GoPro HERO.

The Yi 4K+, which is the younger brother of the 4K+, can often be purchased for less than $100. The Yi 4K+ is a solid action camera with 4K at 30fps recording and the ability to capture raw stills of 12MP with EIS. It also has a nice, scratch-resistant touchscreen display that’s 2.2 inches in size.

The overall package is, however, a bit pricey for what it is. The accessory pack is not included, which you would normally get with a cheaper action camera. While it is true that many people don’t intend to use their action cameras underwater or mount them to helmets, this is not the point. The AKASO V50X and Apeman TWO are superior cameras.

4. MI Xiaomi Mijia 4K

Xiaomi has been a well-known brand for making high-quality Android phones at a reasonable price over the past few years. It seems that they are also trying to enter the action camera market.

The Xiaomi MI Mijia 4K native 4K camera is an outstanding choice. The V50X and the Yi 4K have comparable capture quality. The camera looks great and is very sleek.

The Mijia 4K received a lot of attention upon its release but has not performed well. It is expensive, and it doesn’t run 4K @ 60fps. Partly this is because the maximum field of vision is only 145 degrees.

It’s a good camera overall, but it doesn’t disrupt the market as Xiaomi has done in the past.

5. AKASO Brave 4

  • Construction with a rugged finish
  • Bunch of mounting accessories
  • Waterproof up to 100 feet
  • 4K video at 24fps
  • Remote control wireless for simple operation
  • Variable angle adjustment for the camera’s view between 70 and 170deg
  • 2″ IPS screen

  • The sound quality is poor

You’d notice in our previous article that the Akaso elite was our top pick. We have no other words.

This brand is a must-see. The action cameras are packed with the best features and come with an enticing price tag.

This is the Brave 4. It is an upgrade of the AKASO EK7000, which was their most popular model.

The Brave 4 records 4K footage at 24fps, 2K at 30FPS, and slow motion at full HD. The Brave 4 also has high-resolution images that can be viewed at 20MP.

For a camera this low-cost, the image quality is excellent. The view angle can be adjusted from 70 to 170 degrees. An in-built gyroscope ensures that the Footage is smooth and unflappable.

The Brave 4 can be waterproof up to 100 feet. It is suitable for all underwater applications except deep water diving.

The wireless remote control wristband makes operating the camera underwater easy. Just touch a few buttons, and you can toggle between different modes or use the 5x zoom feature to get closer to your subject.

It also includes an impressive accessory bundle with every camera, just like the rest.

Look no further if you’re looking for the best feature-rich action camera under $100.

6. Campark X15

  • 4K videos
  • Large 2″ IPS touchscreen display
  • Waterproof up to 98°F
  • High Definition 6G Lens – 170deg
  • EIS
  • Manual exposure

  • No wireless remote

Campark’s new X15 action camera is an upgrade to one of their bestsellers.

The camera shoots at 4K and can be downgraded to 720P if you increase the framerate. It also features a large touchscreen of 2 inches IPS that allows you to view Footage, toggle between shooting modes, and has Electronic Image Stabilization. This keeps your videos smooth, no matter how blurred or jerky.

The lens is water-resistant up to 98 feet. While not great, it is still suitable for most applications. The best part is the 170deg high-definition 6G lens, which allows you to manually adjust the exposure.

The videos are free from the fisheye warp, and manual settings allow you to get the best out of your camera, even in dimly lit areas.

We loved the Ultra Time Lapse mode, which is one of the many shooting modes available on most action cameras.

Oh! It comes with an industry-leading 3-year warranty—excellent customer service with a guaranteed response time of 24 hours.

7. Dragon Touch Vision 5

Since the 2016 release of the GoPro Hero5, GoPros have been waterproof right out of the box, usually up to 10m. When you swim in the pool, go surfing on the beach, or kayak down the river, there is no need to use extra casing.

The vast majority of non-GoPro cameras are not waterproof right out of the box. The box usually includes a plastic case that you can use to protect them. The external housing is not only annoying but will reduce the audio quality as it creates an additional layer between sound and mic.

The Dragon Touch Vision 5 can be used underwater for up to 40m with no casing. This makes it a budget-friendly option for GoPro owners who don’t want external casing.

If you plan to surf only once per month and record mostly Footage of your mountain biking or other less “wet” sports, I would recommend one of the other cameras. They offer more value for money.

Video quality is not Vision 5’s strongest point. It is also very similar to action cameras that are slightly less expensive, such as the Vision 3, ACT-74, and AKASO K7000. The waterproof design is definitely worth the premium.

The Vision 5 is a budget-friendly action camera that can be used to take pictures even when it’s wet.

8. Polaroid Cube ACT II HD 1080p

  • Popular, cube-shaped design
  • External casing rubberized
  • A tiny form factor that fits in your forefingers
  • Magnetic base for mounting magnetic items on metallic surfaces
  • 124-degree lenses

  • No 4K Video
  • There are no fancy features
  • No LCD Display
  • You must buy the casing to make it waterproof

Polaroid was founded to make instant cameras. However, the company is now moving forward and has created its own action camera, The Polaroid Cube Act II.

The 124-degree lens is not as wide as the 170-degree ultra-wide angles that you would expect from a true sports action camera. This means that you won’t get as much Footage. A narrower lens will be appreciated for simple vlogging (reduces the fisheye effect).

The Polaroid Cube, which has a similar design to the GoPro HERO sessions, is a cute action camera that makes a great and affordable gift. It is easy to use and can be used to introduce new users to action video shooting.

A nice feature of the Polaroid Cube is its built-in magnets. They allow it to snap onto’ various metal surfaces and remain in place.

The rubberized Polaroid Cube can only be submerged in water.

It even includes a 2.5mm external microphone that records professional audio. Are you looking for video logs to upload to your YouTube channel? These are your options.

This budget camera has a six-axis antishake EIS technology, which virtually eliminates any jitters and jerks. Amazing Footage was captured by the Boifun camera on a handlebar bicycle. It was flawless.

The 170-degree wide-angle lens gives Footage a new perspective regardless of whether it is on land or water.

Boivin’s camera is Wi-Fi-compatible and includes a variety of shooting modes that will make it easier to shoot. You can choose from slow motion, loop, and time-lapse modes. You can also set a timer for your selfies or take pictures in burst mode.

10. DBPOWER 4K Action Cam

  • Cheapest 4K action camera
  • 20MP photos
  • Multiple shooting modes
  • Waterproof up to 100 feet
  • Waterproof, rugged casing
  • Accessory Kit

  • It is not the best quality footage
  • No wireless remote
  • The battery’s capacity is only 900mAh. It is only 900mAh.

We were shocked to see the price of the DBPower action cam.

It is amazing that such a great camera can be made for so little money.

We were convinced after seeing the Footage that this was the right backup camera for us. The camera can record videos at 4K resolution and snap pictures at 20MP. It is also waterproof up to 100 feet.

It also comes with a waterproof case and an excellent accessory kit.

There are many shooting options and modes. There are three modes: slow motion, driving, drama, and manual exposure.

The camera features a wide-angle 170deg lens, similar to a $150 action cam. It also includes two 900mAh batteries.

Stability is provided by an inbuilt 3-axis Gyroscope.

It may not be the best quality footage. However, this is subjective. In the last month, we have seen so many action cameras that it is possible to be biased towards the more expensive ones.

However, this camera is perfect for anyone who needs a cheap, reliable action camera.

Keep in mind that you can purchase four to five of these for the same amount as a GoPro.

  • 2″ Display
  • Waterproof up to 98 feet
  • 2 x 1050mAh batteries

  • No wireless remote

Crosstour Action cam is a little less expensive than the DBPower 4K.

This is a mix-bag of many things. It can click images at 12MP and has a maximum resolution of full HD.

It makes up for its lack of resolution with the features and accessories it comes with.

It comes with a 170degwide-angle zoom lens, which seems to make all of the difference between standard Footage and high-quality Footage. Worse, there is very little to no warping.

The LCD screen is 2 inches in size, making it easy to navigate through the functions and adjust footage settings.

This model comes with two 1050mAh batteries, unlike the previous model. This gives you more power, which allows for longer shooting times.

It can be submerged up to 98 feet. This underwater cam is perfect for scuba diving.

12. Vivitar DVR783HD

  • Fairly low-quality stills and videos
  • Cannot be used in water deeper than 3 meters

This more traditional-looking Vivitar action camera is available in a variety of body colors. It features 5.1-megapixel image resolution, high definition video recording at 720P, and waterproofing up to 10ft.

This unit includes a charger and a lithium-ion battery. It also comes with a helmet mount and a bike mount to capture footage on the go. Although the camera is quite basic, it has a 1.8-inch LCD screen and, as with most cameras in its class, images can be written to microSD cards.

13. VTech Kidizoom Action Cam HD

  • Fun design
  • Suitable for children 5 years and older
  • Comes with waterproof housing & float handle
  • Comes with a bike mount

  • Low-resolution stills

Additional housing is required to make the house fully waterproof.

This action camera is fun for kids from 5 years old and up. It can shoot 720p video, which is almost HD quality. Stills are disappointing at just one megapixel. This camera is about the fun… it comes with a waterproof housing, floating handle, and clamp to attach to a bicycle. You can save a lot of clips by investing in a MicroSD Card. The internal memory is 128MB.

Buying Guide

Buying Guide to purchase Best Action Camera Under 100

Build Quality

We would have given more importance to the quality and cost of Footage if we were spending more.

It is important that cameras at this price range can withstand a beating and continue to kick.

Is the body of the camera made from tough polyethylene? Is the rubberized coating on it? Is it waterproof right out of the box? Or does it come with a separate waterproof case?

What about the LCD? Is it covered with gorilla glass?

Cameras are not bulletproof. These attributes will ensure that your camera is safe for long-term, uninterrupted use.

Footage quality

Instead of using a 4K video to benchmark quality, make sure you examine the Footage.

Not everyone needs 4K Ultra HD. This is true if you are a professional Vlogger or YouTuber. Even though two cameras may be advertised with the same specifications, the quality of Footage can vary depending on how the sensor and glass are made.

Full HD can still provide amazing clarity if you don’t get too obsessed with 4K. Bright enough to make your Instagram followers go wild.

We have included several action cameras with 4K video and excellent color reproduction just to make sure.

Manufacturers often use this feature to sell their products.

How will you use the camera? A waterproof camera that can be used up to 130 feet is sufficient if it will be mounted on your car’s dashboard or handlebar. This is a great feature to add. It’s not a requirement.

If you plan to use the camera for underwater photography and videography, you will need it to be waterproof to at most 100 feet.

Use it quickly

Each action camera is identical these days. However, when the camera is attached to your wrist, and you’re whizzing down a steep slope at 100 mph, things can change very quickly.

A camera should be easy to use. You want one that allows you to access most functions in a matter of seconds. The main features shouldn’t be hidden under layers upon layers of menu options.

Is it equipped with a large LCD touchscreen display? If it does not, is there a one-touch recording?

Is it shipped with wireless remote control?

Is it easy to use the camera’s controls? Is there a mobile app that is compatible with the camera?

Accessory Kit

Is it unreasonable to expect an accessory kit for your budget action camera?

It’s not true. Many manufacturers now include accessories with their cameras. These accessories are not cheap, even if they were purchased separately.

A camera with an extensive accessory bundle is worth the investment.

Sharing and Connectivity

These days, action cameras come with Bluetooth and WiFi. If your action camera is compatible with a mobile app, you will be able to share captured Footage directly on social networks after making basic edits.

You are likely a social media addict (who isn’t?). This is a feature you should be looking out for.

You might also consider HDMI connectivity if your laptop is used for editing.

All action cameras on this page have built-in WiFi. This feature is essential as it allows you to connect your iPhone or Android with the camera. You can control your action camera remotely by connecting to your phone.

Filming The Video In Low Light

Action cameras are small in nature and have small apertures that allow for much more light to pass through. They are therefore not great at low light photography.
If you’re recording at night, it is a good idea to disable Electronic Image Stabilization. While this can increase video quality, you should be aware that it will make the recording more sensitive to camera shake.

Use Your New Action Camera to Dive With It

Action cameras can be used underwater. Most action cameras require waterproof housing. Before you take your action camera underwater, make sure the waterproof case is properly fitted.
The V50 Pro action camera has a diving mode that filters out red light and enhances color underwater.

Battery Life

Action cameras take rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. You can expect to record between 45 and 150 minutes per battery.
Higher-resolution recording and EIS use will drain more battery. You will find that most budget action cameras include a spare lithium battery. Make sure to keep it with you.

Modes for Shooting

All action cameras have basic built-in shooting modes. Recording video and taking photographs are the most basic modes.
These modes include slow-motion recording and time-lapse. Before you buy a camera, make sure it supports any of the shooting modes that you are interested in.

FAQs about Action Camera Under 100

Are action cameras good for photography?

Action cameras love the “Fish-Eye”, the ultra-wide look of action cameras. It helps to make the video “look” stable and less jerky. This isn’t really a good idea for still photography. While it can be useful in certain situations, it is not the best fit for all situations.

What should I look out for when purchasing an action camera

You must decide how important image quality is for you. If you are concerned about image quality, you should choose an FHD or, if budget allows, UHD action cameras. You should pay close attention to microphone functions if you plan to record audio with your action camera. Some action cameras have the ability to reduce wind noise

Is it possible to take photos with an action camera?

Many action cameras can record 4k videos at top quality with minimal effort. They can also take excellent photos thanks to their large sensors. These can then be transferred immediately to your smartphone via WiFi.

You can check out some useful information here:

After much deliberation, it has been concluded that the best action camera under 100 is the GoPro Hero. This camera is able to capture stunning HD footage while also being durable and affordable.
